crashing waves thoughts
i like this art style a lot. the waves on the GUI are really pretty and i love how the seafoam is stylized. i would love to see a more rendered version of the CGs but i also appreciate the effectiveness of the current quick and simple rendering.
im not a fan of parts of the GUI because in the menus the text color is either gray or white, and the gray doesn't contrast well by itself so it can be difficult to read. the white contrasts well, but overall would definitely go through and do an accessibility check
another thing is that i dislike having to click/interact twice instead of once for progressing the dialogue. however i like the general layout of how the dialogue is displayed and i like that the character names are displayed easily.
i understand some mandarin so maybe my reading experience would be different from other readers who dont, but in lines like where mei lanyun says baobei i think i would have not put the chinese characters and only put the pinyin. that was just my thought when reading.
the difference in mood with the two relationships is really stark, and i like how intimate the scenes with mei lanyun feel. it really feels like casual conversations between lovers.
i think having some ambient music or ambient sound would do a lot for more immersion in a lot of the scenes.
i wish that the ending had more writing, it was very abrupt and the quickness was disorienting and surprising. i was confused why it was happening in the way that it did, but i appreciated the foreshadowing that had been in the earlier dialogue. i couldnt understand why litongxi made her decisions and i didnt feel like there was adequate buildup to it, so if this visual novel ever receives more writing i think that would be the best place to focus. i would absolutely read an updated version!
i also noticed one or two typos and a simple bug so i think proofreading and having others reflect their impressions about the experience would help a lot.
thank you for making this! i enjoyed playing it and hope to see more!
Thank you for such a detailed reply! I agree some more work could have been done on the GUI for readability (And i'll be sure to revisit it to address those issues to make sure that it's readable.)
The project originally was written for a vnjam but we missed the deadline thought we wanted to publish something anyways. I'm not sure if an updated version with more writing is in the cards but I do also agree that I would have liked to write some more to make the ending a bit better.
